Meritto vs LeadSquared for Study Abroad Consultancies (2026)
Meritto vs LeadSquared for study abroad consultancies: applications, student portals, WhatsApp, calling, reports, mobile and pricing, from each vendor's pages.
Meritto vs LeadSquared is the comparison many Indian study abroad consultancies end up making, because both vendors sell hard to education and both have pages written for overseas education consultants. This guide puts the two side by side on what decides the choice for a consultancy: who each product is built for, applications and the student portal, WhatsApp, calling, reports, the mobile app and how openly each publishes its pricing. Every vendor fact comes from Meritto's or LeadSquared's own public pages, checked September 2026, with the link. It is written for consultancy owners and admissions heads in India.
Key takeaways
- Meritto, formerly NoPaperForms, grew out of online applications: form builder, fee collection, document review and a student enrolment portal. Its study abroad page adds an agent dashboard and commission tracking.
- LeadSquared is a cross-industry CRM with an education practice. Its overseas education page maps several applications to one lead, and its pricing page lists portals and its Converse chat inbox as add-ons.
- On WhatsApp they differ in kind: Meritto sells its own WhatsApp layer with an inbox and a chatbot, while LeadSquared connects to a long list of providers, many of them Indian.
- Both publish prices, on different bases: Meritto by number of applications a year, LeadSquared's sales plans per user. Count the add-ons before comparing.
- If your counsellors carry iPhones, read LeadSquared's note on iOS call tracking before the demo, and ask Meritto which telephony provider will record the call.

Who each product is built for
Meritto. Its homepage lists universities, colleges, K-12 schools, preschools, coaching institutes, EdTech platforms, online degree programmes and study abroad consultants among the institutions it serves. The company was NoPaperForms until it announced the Meritto name on 26 June 2023, and the old name tells you where it started. Its application automation product builds application forms, collects application fees with multi-stage and split payments, and lets an admissions team verify or reject uploaded documents and ask for resubmission. Much of the product line is written for the institution that receives applications.
LeadSquared. A CRM sold across industries. Its portals page lists portals for education, lending, real estate and healthcare, and it prices sales CRM and marketing automation as separate products. Its education page splits the market into higher education, study abroad, K-12, test prep and edtech, and calls its study abroad offer a "Full stack overseas education CRM".
What that means for you. Meritto is shaped around an admissions desk; LeadSquared around a sales team working a funnel. A consultancy is both at once: a sales funnel at the front (Meta leads, telecalling, walk-ins) and an admissions desk behind it (applications to many universities, often in two countries). Decide which half hurts more today, and weight the rest of this comparison accordingly.
Applications, documents and the student portal
This is where a consultancy differs from a college. The college receives one application from each student; you send one student's applications to five universities.
| Need | Meritto | LeadSquared |
|---|---|---|
| Several applications per student | "Single Login for Multiple Courses" and "Real-Time Application Status" in a student enrolment portal | Map multiple course or college applications on one lead and track how each application opportunity progresses |
| Documents | "Manage SOPs, LORs, visa documents, and submissions" | Students "upload visa or course-related documents on a custom student portal" |
| Student self-service | Enrolment portal with instant notifications | Applicant portal with forms you can resume, PDF download, payments and status |
| Partners and sub-agents | Agent dashboard; "Track commissions, performance, and partner updates" | Publisher Portal; ask whether it fits sub-agents |
| Fee collection | Payment links and automated payment reminders | Payments inside the applicant portal |
Sources: Meritto's study abroad consultant page, LeadSquared's overseas education page and applicant portal page. One caution: that applicant portal page is written for career schools and vocational colleges, so ask to see the study abroad version logged in as a student.
Worked example: one student, three applications
Take a hypothetical student, Farhan, who wants a master's in mechanical engineering. He applies to two universities in Germany and one in Ireland. The Irish offer arrives first, conditional on an English test score; one German university asks for an extra document; the other German application is rejected.
Run the same script in both demos:
- Create Farhan once and add three applications under him.
- Upload his passport once and check that all three applications can see it.
- Record the Irish condition somewhere a colleague will find it without asking.
- Reject one German application and check the other two stay where they were.
- Open the enrolment report and check Farhan counts as one student, not three.
- If you want Farhan uploading his own documents, log in to the portal as him, and ask whether the portal is in the plan you are being quoted.
WhatsApp: Meritto's own layer or LeadSquared's connectors
Meritto. Its WhatsApp Business API page describes Meritto as "an official Meta Tech Partner", with templates organised under marketing, utility or service, broadcasts for programme launches and scholarship updates, a live-chat inbox called Echo to manage all WhatsApp replies from one centralised inbox, an education chatbot called Niaa for FAQs, and conversations linked automatically to leads and applications. Its packages page shows bulk WhatsApp messaging and WhatsApp live chat (Echo) against its Pro plan.
LeadSquared. Its WhatsApp Business Messaging Connector lists providers including WhatsApp Cloud, Gupshup, Infobip, Kaleyra, ValueFirst, Airtel, WATI, Interakt, AiSensy, DoubleTick and Tata Tele Business Services, with templates, automated reminders, bulk messages and two-way conversations in Converse. The Cloud API guide asks for an approved WhatsApp Business number and account, and says enablement goes through your account manager or support. The sales CRM pricing page lists Converse + Chatbot as an add-on.
Decision rules:
- You already pay an Indian WhatsApp provider and are happy with it. Check whether it is on LeadSquared's list. With Meritto, ask whether you can bring the existing account or must move to theirs.
- You want a bot answering questions at night. Both list one: Niaa at Meritto, Converse + Chatbot at LeadSquared. Ask to see it answer a real intake question.
- You want to keep the WhatsApp Business app on the same number. Neither page we read mentions Coexistence, so ask. Our guide to WhatsApp Business app vs API vs Coexistence explains the trade-off.
- Either way, ask who bills you for WhatsApp messages and whether the CRM vendor adds anything on top.
Calling, call recording and the mobile app
Most counselling in India happens on the phone, so two questions matter: how is a call placed and logged, and where does the recording come from?
Meritto. Its extensions page lists five cloud telephony integrations: Ozonetel, Knowlarity, MCube, MyOperator and CallHippo. Its page for counselling teams offers one-click calling from the lead profile on web or mobile and says "Every call is auto-logged". The mobile app page describes calls placed through your phone, with cloud telephony keeping the number masked, plus push reminders for follow-ups, voice notes and geo-tracking for field teams, on Android and iOS. The packages page lists voice calling as an "Available Add-On" on every plan and mobile CRM against the Pro plan.
LeadSquared. Its telephony overview names "Exotel, Ozonetel, Ameyo, CTM, and more", with Click 2 Call from the lead page. For calls from a counsellor's own mobile, its help centre says Android needs both the LeadSquared mobile app and its Call and SMS tracker app, with an admin switching on call tracking and recording; recordings post to the lead's activity history. On iOS, only outbound calls made through the app are tracked, not inbound calls or calls from the dial pad, and the app must stay in the foreground for the whole call (LeadSquared help). Its mobile CRM is on Google Play and the App Store, with offline mode, check-ins and route planning; the sales pricing page puts offline mode on the Sales Super plan.
Run these tests with both vendors:
| Test | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| A counsellor rings a student from their own SIM, then you open the lead | Whether SIM calls are captured at all, or only telephony calls |
| The student calls back and nobody answers | Whether missed inbound calls reach the lead, where a Meta lead is most often lost |
| An iPhone counsellor makes the same call | Whether your iPhone users will need a cloud telephony number |
| A branch manager plays the recording | Who can hear which calls |
| You ask for the telephony bill on its own line | What minutes and number rental will cost on top of the licence |
If you are unsure which calling model suits your team, SIM call recording vs cloud telephony sets out the trade-offs.
Reports and dashboards
Meritto. The study abroad page lists a "Drag and Drop Report Builder", "100+ Advanced Visual Dashlets", "Inquiry to Enrollment Funneling" and a "Counselor Productivity Report". Its reports and analytics page adds pivot-style reports such as source-wise pipeline and custom reports on any application field.
LeadSquared. The overseas education page offers "a report drill-down of channel-, team-, geography-wise performance" and leaderboards for counsellors. The sales pricing page lists a LeadSquared Analytics Platform among its add-ons.
The number of dashlets matters less than whether you can trust one. Ask each vendor to build these four live, on sample data, and to open the list behind every number:
- How many enquiries from each Meta campaign reached an application for this intake?
- Which counsellor has the most students waiting on a deposit?
- How many students, not applications, enrolled this quarter?
- Which branch has the most overdue follow-ups today?
If the count on the tile and the length of the list disagree, your monthly review becomes an argument about data. We explain why that happens in when your CRM report does not match the leads list.
Pricing transparency and what sits outside the base plan
Both vendors publish prices, which is more than many in this market do. We don't reproduce the amounts: they change, and the tier tables are easy to misread.
| Meritto | LeadSquared | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Packages and pricing | Sales CRM pricing, marketing automation pricing, US education CRM pricing |
| Billing | Annual | Annual |
| Sized by | Number of applications a year, in bands; Enterprise on request | Sales plans per user; marketing automation per account; US education plans by user band |
| Add-on or higher plan | Voice calling (add-on); mobile CRM, bulk WhatsApp and WhatsApp live chat (Pro plan) | Converse + Chatbot, Portals and Analytics Platform (add-ons); offline mode (Sales Super) |
Worked example: which number grows faster?
Take a hypothetical consultancy in Pune with 12 users (nine counsellors, two telecallers and the owner) that files about 900 applications a year across the UK, Ireland and Germany, and plans to hire four more counsellors next year.
- Under a per-user model, the bill moves when you hire. Four hires take it from 12 users to 16.
- Under a per-application model, the bill moves when you file more applications. If each new counsellor handles the same load, 16 counsellor-equivalents file roughly 1,200 applications, not 900. Ask Meritto how it counts applications for a consultancy that files several per student, because its bands read as if written for an institution receiving them.
Neither basis is cheaper in the abstract. Work out which number grows faster in your plan, then ask both vendors to quote on next year's figure, with each add-on you need (calling, WhatsApp inbox, student portal, mobile) on its own line.
If a university partner or a corporate client sends you a security questionnaire, LeadSquared's security page states ISO 27001:2022 certification by BSI, and Meritto's packages page lists SOC 2 Type II and single sign-on with Google or SAML 2.0.
Where each fits: decision rules
| Your situation | Shortlist first | Check before signing |
|---|---|---|
| You also run a college, school or coaching wing | Meritto | Which modules the study abroad plan includes |
| You track sub-agents and university commissions in the CRM | Meritto | How commission is recorded against each application |
| You already pay a WhatsApp provider on LeadSquared's list | LeadSquared | What the Converse add-on costs and who bills messages |
| You want sales, marketing automation and service from one vendor | LeadSquared | That each product is priced separately |
| You run a field team at fairs and school visits | Either: LeadSquared lists offline mode, Meritto geo-tracking | Which plan includes it |
| Students should apply, upload and pay in a portal | Either | That the portal is in your quote, not an extra |
| Your counsellors call from personal phones and many carry iPhones | Neither page settles it | Run the call tests above on both |

How Xale handles this
Xale is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. It is a third option for consultancies whose day runs on calls and WhatsApp rather than online applications. A Study Abroad workspace starts with an Inquiry → Qualify → Application → Deposit → Visa → Enrolled pipeline you can edit, and each university application is its own deal under one student record, with its own stage, owner, payments and chat; the student counts once in conversions. WhatsApp runs on Meta's Cloud API, including Coexistence with the WhatsApp Business app, or on an existing Wati, Gallabox or UrbanChat account, in one role-scoped inbox. Every counsellor call logged and recorded, two routes. The Xale Android app syncs each call from the counsellor's own phone to the right lead with direction, duration and outcome, no per-minute charges, and attaches the phone's own recording. TeleCMI cloud telephony records calls from a business number on any phone, iPhone included. Any report number opens the exact leads behind it. Pricing is a subscription per workspace, on the pricing page.
The limits, plainly: Xale has no student portal or applicant-facing forms, no partner or commission module, no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification, and no public API or Zapier. If those are on your must-have list, Meritto or LeadSquared will serve you better. If calls are the deciding factor, see how Xale records counsellor calls.
Frequently asked questions
Is Meritto or LeadSquared better for a small study abroad consultancy?
It depends on what you would actually use. Meritto prices annually by number of applications and lists voice calling as an add-on, while LeadSquared prices its sales plans per user and lists portals and its chat inbox as add-ons. A small team should total the base plan plus only the add-ons it needs, run the same demo script with both, and compare that total with lighter tools built for consultancies.
Do Meritto and LeadSquared both track several university applications for one student?
Yes, according to their own pages. LeadSquared's overseas education page says you can map and view multiple course and college applications on the same lead and track how each progresses. Meritto's study abroad page describes a student enrolment portal with a single login for multiple courses and live application status. In a demo, create one student with three applications, reject one, and check the student still counts once.
Can counsellors on iPhones have their calls recorded in LeadSquared or Meritto?
LeadSquared's help centre says that on iOS only outbound calls placed through its app are tracked, not inbound calls or calls from the dial pad, and the app must stay in the foreground for the call. Meritto lists cloud telephony integrations such as Ozonetel, Knowlarity, MCube, MyOperator and CallHippo, and says calls from its app can run through them. For iPhone users, test a cloud telephony number first with either vendor.
Do Meritto and LeadSquared publish their prices?
Yes. Meritto's packages page publishes annual prices in bands by number of applications, with Enterprise on request. LeadSquared publishes its sales CRM plans priced per user and billed annually, its marketing automation plans per account, and a separate US education pricing page. Neither base price covers everything, so check which add-ons, such as voice calling, portals or the WhatsApp inbox, your quote actually includes.
